Istanbul Kultur University, a foundation university established with the Law No. 4281 accepted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on July 9, 1997, is a university established by the Kultur College Education Foundation (KEV) and subject to the provisions of the Law No. 2547 on foundation higher education institutions.
Having a strong corporate culture, the Istanbul Kultur University has 8 faculties as of the 2020-21 academic year, including the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Art and Design, and the Faculty of Health Sciences. The university continues its associate degree at two vocational schools, IKU Vocational School and Justice Vocational School, and graduate and doctorate education at the Graduate Education Institute. Istanbul Kultur University has a strong academic staff who are experienced and prominent in their fields. Distribution of full-time faculty members: 53 professors, 26 associate professors, 127 Dr. Instructor which consists of a total of 206 academicians, including members. The number of lecturers is 70 and the number of research assistants is 109. The total academic staff consists of 863 lecturers, together with 453 lecturers from DSU who are experts in their fields. 243 personnel work full-time in administrative units.

Istanbul Kultur University has made and is carrying out important studies to improve the quality processes in education and training since the beginning of education. At the beginning of these activities are the activities carried out for the accreditation of the programs. Undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Architecture (since 2008), the Faculty of Engineering (since 2012) and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (since 2011) have been evaluated by national accreditation agencies, and new application targets are planned in addition to the undergraduate programs that have completed their external evaluation processes. Faculty of Arts and Sciences English Language and Literature Undergraduate Program, Mathematics-Computer Undergraduate Program, Molecular Biology and Genetics Undergraduate Program, Psychology Undergraduate Program and Turkish Language and Literature Undergraduate Program by FEDEK; Faculty of Architecture, Architecture Undergraduate Program by MİAK; Engineering Faculty, Engineering Undergraduate Program, Electrical-Electronics Engineering Undergraduate Program, Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Program and Civil Engineering Undergraduate Program have passed the external evaluation process and received accreditation documents by MÜDEK. Its Foreign LanguagesDepartment has been accredited by “Pearson Assured” as of 06 July 2018. IKU went through the YÖKAK Institutional External Evaluation process in 2018.
As of December 2020−21 academic year, the total number of students is 15537, 3674 in associate degree programs, 10527 in undergraduate programs, 1171 in graduate programs and 165 in doctoral programs.
Within the scope of the mission and vision of Istanbul Kultur University, the student is expected to be active in every field. Programs carry out different activities in order to provide students with research competence in line with their own goals. Within the scope of the course, activities such as interactive homework, projects and presentations, presentations at symposiums and/or congresses related to their programs, taking part in projects, and carrying out a graduation project with the advisor are supported. In addition, technical trips, career days, seminars, and platforms for following cultural and artistic events are created by the units.
Istanbul Kultur University produces graduates who are familiar with contemporary technologies at associate, undergraduate and graduate levels, equipped with the knowledge and experience to meet the needs in the fields of production, application and management, who can work in the international business world, who have the philosophy of professional ethics, teamwork skills and entrepreneurial spirit. IKU gave its first associate degree graduates from Business Administration and Technical Sciences Vocational School in 1999. It gave its first undergraduate graduates (38 graduates) and first graduate graduates (10 graduates) in 2001. In 2020, a total of 3163 graduates, including 1043 graduates from associate degree programs, 1983 graduate programs, 131 graduates from master's programs and 6 graduates from doctoral programs. Between 1999 and 2020, the total number of graduates of IKU reached twenty-seven thousand six hundred and forty-one (27641).
Institutional research and development strategies at Istanbul Kultur University started with the establishment of the R&D Center in 1997, the year of establishment of the university. R&D activities and related support, which have passed through various stages, are carried out under the umbrella of the Technology and Project Support Unit (TPDB), with the directive accepted at the Senate meeting on January 25, 2017. Research and Development strategies are carried out by the TPDB Commission within the framework of the University's Strategic Plan.
